Surrender your Pet

Owner Surrender

We understand that it can be a very difficult decision to give up a family pet. If possible, we would encourage you to try to rehome your pet yourself on Home To Home, an interactive community platform where you can post your pet and talk directly to interested adopters!

Home To Home website:

If you've come to the decision that you cannot keep your pet and are not able to rehome it yourself, please give our intake specialist a call at 907-459-1497.  We can discuss potential options/alternatives to surrendering your pet to the shelter, at your request, or we can help you through the surrender process.

Please bring any veterinary records and/or proof of ownership with you when you deliver your animal to the shelter.  Animal care staff will immediately begin to assess the animal for needs and adoptability.  Completely filling out the behavior portion of the surrender form (found on the back/second page) helps the staff to find a good match and an appropriate home for your pet's behavioral character.  Unfortunately, some pets may not be considered to be safe adoption candidates due to their behavior.  If you have questions or concerns regarding your pet, please call our intake specialist.

Intake appointments are encouraged and can be scheduled Monday-Friday

There is no charge to surrender your pet if you are a citizen of the Fairbanks North Star Borough.  For non-borough residents, there is a 30.00 dollar fee per animal.
